Oceanside’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) focuses on the major sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the community. These emissions result from everyday activities, such as how people travel, how buildings are powered and operated, how water and waste are managed, and how natural lands are protected and restored. 

To address these impacts in Oceanside, the CAP organizes its strategies into key emission sectors. By targeting these areas, the City can implement measurable actions that reduce emissions, improve public health and air quality, strengthen the local economy, and build long-term climate resilience. 

Each sector includes specific measures and actions designed to:

• Reduce citywide GHG emissions
• Guide sustainable development
• Support local and regional sustainability programs and initiatives
• Align with statewide climate targets
• Reflect Oceanside’s unique needs, economy, and character

With a focus on renewable energy, includes measures that reduce emissions from electricity generation and natural gas use from existing homes and buildings, future development and municipal operations.

Includes measures that reduce emissions from on-road transportation from single-occupancy vehicles by incentivizing public transit and zero-emission vehicles. This also includes initiatives to shift off-road vehicles and industrial equipment to zero-emission and/or renewable fuels.
